Many adults and children do not like the appearance of moles (naevi) on their face. Their concerns are usually based on cosmetic, functional (itchiness or being bumped) or malignant change.

Mole Removal Procedure

Moles come in all shapes and sizes including the degree of pigmentation present. Moles can be removed completely which would require closure with sutures. At times shave excision can be performed which does not require stitching. This is an excellent technique which significantly increases the likelihood of a pleasing scar. The procedures are usually performed as a day surgery procedure in the office under local anaesthetic. A small dressing is left in place for 24 hours and thereafter antibiotic ointment applied either on the wound or suture line for a period of seven days until the area has healed. Pathology is always checked to make sure the mole was benign.
